Who we are

Shirley Robertson Children’s Centre prides itself on welcoming the whole family. We endeavor to make you and your family’s time at SRCC a positive and enjoyable experience.

At SRCC we endeavor to create an indoor and outdoor environment that is natural, inviting, inclusive and rich of possibilities. We aim for our program to reflect our local community, families and educators using the service.

We believe in teaching our children about loving nature, respecting the environment and working towards developing sustainable practices that are environmentally friendly. We will support children to develop understanding and respect about the Australian Heritage, Australian indigenous culture with some emphasis on our local Wurundjeri people.

Through recognizing individual strengths and needs of families within the community, we ensure that all individual educational and care needs are met.

Our Program

Here at SRCC we use the ‘Walker Learning Approach’ to plan, observe, reflect, implement and evaluate our program and your children's learning journals.

What is the ‘Walker Learning Approach’?
The Walker Learning Approach is revolutionising early childhood and primary teaching approaches through an evidence based pedagogy. It provides an authentic personalised learning model of teaching and learning that is effective across all cultural, economical, geographical, religious and social spectrums. The pedagogy uses developmentally appropriate ways of helping to engage children in meaningful and relevant strategies that enhance academic skills alongside social and emotional development.

Our aims for children attending SRCC

  • Experience a safe, stimulating emergent style curriculum of planning, designed to meet each child’s individual needs, interests and work according to the National Early Years Learning Framework. This aims to create a sense of belonging, being and becoming through strengthening each child’s sense of Identity, connectedness to the world around them, their sense of wellbeing, developing confident and involved learning, and communication skills

  • We encourage an understanding and respect for cultural diversity and celebrate this throughout our centre

  • Develop each child’s natural curiosity for learning and understanding the world around them

  • Ensure each child has a strong sense of belonging, a sense of being and development of becoming, through the encouragement of positive self esteem

  • Know that SRCC is a safe and nurturing environment that is aesthetically pleasing and to know that the educators are genuinely committed to the care, education and wellbeing of each child

  • Experience lots of fun, enjoyment and laughter
